Practice Test Support
From Parents
What if my teen is no longer able to attend the practice test?
We offer self-proctoring instructions for students who aren’t able to join us live. See the Self-Proctoring section above for those instructions. You may also contact us at help@winwardacademy.com if you have questions about future practice test opportunities.
Is the scantron printed single-sided or double-sided?
The ACT scantron is a single page and can be printed single-sided.
The SAT scantron is multiple pages and can be printed single-sided or double-sided.
Why does the exam need to be printed double-sided?
The real exams are printed double-sided, so it’s best to follow those same printing conventions. We want the practice experience to be as close as possible to the real experience.
What if we don’t have access to a printer?
Students have the option to view a digital PDF of the exam on their computer to take the practice test if a printer isn’t available. We recommend printing the exam, so students have a closely simulated experience to the real test.
Where can I find the preparation instructions?
A parent or guardian will need to prepare materials before the student takes a practice test. An email will be sent a few days before with download links and instructions. You may also refer to the Download and Print Instructions section above to know what to expect. The links to download the exam and scantron will only be sent to the parent or guardian.
How should I keep another family member informed?
During the registration process, you’re asked for a primary and secondary contact for a parent and/or guardian. It’s at that time that you can provide two contact emails for multiple family members.
If a family member or responsible adult who was not included in the registration process will help prepare for the exam, please forward the email from Winward Academy with the download and print instructions to that individual.
What does my teen do after finishing the practice test?
Immediately after finishing the practice test, a Winward Academy live proctor will walk the students through the process of scoring and reviewing their exams. If a student leaves the virtual proctoring space early, the instructions will be provided by email following the exam.
How can we get help understanding my teen’s results?
We offer free 15-minute consultations with families to review their teens’ results, understand performance, and identify areas to prioritize while studying. Please be on the lookout for an email from us after the exam, which will have a Calendly link to schedule a time with us.
How can we pick between ACT and SAT?
The best way to determine which test is best for your teen is to have him or her do a full-length practice ACT and full-length practice SAT and compare the results. The content tested on both exams is virtually identical, but the section order and question styles do differ, so it’s important for students to identify which exam is better for them.

Where can I access the exam and scantron?
A PDF of the exam and scantron will be sent to your parent or guardian listed during the registration process. Please confirm your parent or guardian is available to help download, print, and prepare the materials before starting the exam.
Which zoom link should I choose?
We provide zoom links for students with regular time and for those with 1.5 extended time. You’ll want to join the zoom link depending on which time structure you’ll have during the real test.
If you are not sure which time structure is right for you, we recommend taking the practice exam with regular time.
What should I do if my parent(s) didn’t get the email with the test?
Please email us prior to the date of the practice test at help@winwardacademy.com or call us at 858.869.5502 if you’re having trouble locating the exam or materials.
