Meet Our Founder
Jennifer Winward, Ph.D.
Founder & Lead Instructor
Dr. Jennifer Winward scored in the 99th percentile on her standardized tests and graduated in the top 1% of her University class at age 20. She was then the youngest student admitted to the #1 ranked neuroscience Ph.D. program, where she specialized in adolescent learning and brain development.
For the past 20+ years, Dr. Winward has helped thousands of students achieve admission to their top choice schools. She developed Winward Academy to provide students from all backgrounds with the personal touch that comes with having a teacher in your corner.

how to best help young people in trying circumstances.
Monica Esqueda, Ph.D.
Dr. Esqueda is a well-respected education scholar whose area of expertise includes college access, student success, and educational development for underserved populations. She informs Winward Academy of ways to bridge the opportunity gap and promote life-long learning.
Leslie Hemedes, Psy.D.
Dr. Hemedes specializes in providing trauma-informed treatment for at-risk youth. She keeps Winward Academy aware of ways to better meet the educational needs of vulnerable children and adolescents who are in the foster care system or who have experienced significant trauma.
Sheena Ghanbari, Ed.D.
Dr. Ghanbari is a regarded researcher in STEAM education and arts integration. She is an active member of the arts community and consults with Winward Academy through its program to give back to the art and cultural enrichment programs of local high schools.
Susan Tapert, Ph.D.
Dr. Tapert is an expert in adolescent brain development and learning and memory changes during this critical time. She provides expertise to ensure that Winward Academy always improves the learning experiences for our students.
Reid Meloy, Ph.D.
Dr. Meloy is a board-certified forensic psychologist and is past president of the American Academy of Forensic Psychology. He advises Winward Academy in ways to utilize education to disrupt the cycles of incarceration and poverty.
Vivian Lee, M.D.
Dr. Lee is a pediatrician at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She informs Winward Academy in ways to better meet the educational needs of children with chronic and terminal illness.
